James Harden enters Friday’s matchup in Houston (8 p.m. ET, NBA League Pass) needing four more 3-pointers to tie Ray Allen for second place on the all-time list. Harden currently sits third with 2,970. It will be quite fitting for James to tie or surpass Allen in Houston, the city where he spent more than eight seasons during his career in the league.
The 35-year-old has shot 36.3% for his career from beyond the arc. While that might not place him among the league’s most elite shooters, it’s still a highly impressive mark. Harden’s presence among the leaders in 3-ball history speaks to his ironman mentality and consistency as a scorer which has stuck with him for his 16-year career in the NBA.
Harden made 2,029 of his 2,970 3-pointers as a member of the Rockets from 2012 to 2020. The other 941 makes came during his time in Oklahoma City, where he started his career, and his stops in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and now as a member of the Clippers. During his time in Houston, the Harden led the NBA in both 3-point makes and attempts in 2017-18 (265, 722), 2018-19 (378, 1,028), and 2019-20 (299, 843). He secured his one and only MVP award in 2017-2018.
You can watch the former MVP attempt to make history Friday at 8 PM ET on NBA League Pass, as the Clippers travel to Houston as part of the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup.
